BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday allowed an appeal by noted Kannada writer and Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), Chandrashekara Kambara, and took the Bangalore University to task for failing to settle properly and adequately his pension benefits. Justice R. Gururajan levied cost of Rs. 5,000 on Bangalore University to be paid to Mr. Kambara within four weeks of receipt of the order. He quashed September 17, 2003 and February 12, 2004 orders of Bangalore University fixing his pension and asking him to return the excess amount of Rs. 23,380 paid to him between 1985 and 1987. According to Mr. Kambara, he had joined Bangalore University in 1970 as a temporary lecturer in Kannada. He was made a permanent lecturer in 1975 and promoted as reader in the Department of Kannada in 1981. On October 10, 1991, the university made him a visiting Professor.
