Anjali Gupta gets another defending officer

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Another Indian Air Force officer on Wednesday took charge as the defence counsel of Flying Officer Anjali Gupta before the general court martial jury.

The court martial jury allowed Gp. Capt. S.C. Mishra to take the charge pending appearance of a civilian defence counsel for Ms. Gupta. The jury then adjourned the proceedings till Thursday.

Gp. Capt Mishra was brought by the IAF administration following the jury's direction on Tuesday. The jury had asked the administration make arrangements in view of Ms. Gupta's civilian defence counsel, H.B. Mishra's withdrawal on July 1. The jury found this necessary for proceeding with the case.

Earlier in the day, Ms. Gupta submitted an elaborate submission stating the reasons for her advocate's withdrawal. She charged the IAF harassed her counsel. The statement was objected by the prosecutor, Wg. Cdr. R.K. Dubey.
