NEW DELHI: "We are working towards making the Medical Council of India more accountable and transparent and facilitating the entry of government employees into the Council,'' Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Anbumani Ramadoss has said. Speaking after inaugurating the new telemedicine facility between the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Comprehensive Rural Health Services Project at Ballabgarh in Haryana on Tuesday, he said his Ministry was also looking into an important proposal that deals with increasing the retirement age of doctors in government services. "We are exploring the possibility and weighing the pros and cons of the proposal,'' he said. "Also, a committee has been set up to look into providing an `improved' package for doctors to prevent them from leaving various government institutes or settling outside the country for better opportunities,'' said Dr. Ramadoss, adding that work was also in progress to look into the accreditation of various healthcare facilities. He said the Government would soon come out with a comprehensive rules and guidelines for the same.
