Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, a file photo
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Starting Thursday, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has given a new dimension to the concept of transparency in administration: a web camera in his office in the Government Secretariat here now transmits the scene live to the world via the Internet. It will cover every move of his when he is in his office in a conference, in a discussion, meeting visitors, interacting with the public, receiving memoranda or attending to routine work. To watch him, go to the Chief Minister's official website www.keralacm.gov.in Download the VLC player, provided for at the site. And, there you are. The webcasting is being done by means of a LAN (Local Area Network) within the Secretariat. A press release stated that it is the first time in the country where a Chief Minister's office is thus covered. Mr. Chandy said it was a part of measures to make his administration as transparent as possible. The Chief Minister's website already has provision to receive complaints from the people and inform the complainants of the action being taken on them. The audio of his weekly Cabinet briefings is available at the website. The site, created five months ago, has had one lakh hits. The Centre for Development of Imaging Technology, or C-DIT, an autonomous body supported by the State Government, manages the website and the webcasting operation.
