30 silver oak trees smuggled
Special Correspondent
YERCAUD:
Thirty silver oak trees were illegally felled at Kootamuttal village near Pelakkadu on July 1. The trees were growing on revenue `poromboke' land. The logs were kept ready for transportation. The Village Administrative Officer preferred a complaint with Yercaud police the same day. The police registered a case. "Instead of acting fast, the police kept quiet. It helped tree fellers exploit the situation and they transported the logs two days back," a Revenue official said.
