DHAKA: Bangladesh will wait for the outcome of the talks between India and Myanmar on the gas pipeline, Mahmudur Rahman, Adviser to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, has said. Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said the talks should continue and "if India comes again, we will talk about the project and our interests." Bangladesh stayed away from the tri-nation meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday, saying it got the invitation only on Tuesday. Mr. Mahmud said iIf India and Myanmar found a better route for the pipeline, they would obviously go for that, but "if they feel that the route through Bangladesh will be a better option, they will come to us."
Mahmud's comments flayed
Mr. Mahmud's comments came under criticism in Parliament on Wednesday. Opposition leader Kader Siddiqui accused him of displaying an "arrogant" attitude.
