PONDICHERRY: The Union of Workers of Mechanised Fishing Boats here has called upon the Central Government to create a separate National Disaster Management Commission with full powers. Such a commission should be established through Constitutional amendment. A release from the General Secretary of the Union, P. Ayyanar, said here on Thursday that a resolution adopted at the extraordinary meeting of the Union held under urged the Pondicherry Administration to pay a subsistence pay of Rs 150 a day to each of the workers attached to the boat owners and also those engaged in supplementary works and the amount covering retrospectively since the tsunami attack and paid to the workers. There should be no forced eviction of the fishermen residing close to the seashore.
