NEW DELHI: The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) on Thursday decided to enhance the ceiling on reimbursement of medical care to State governments from Rs.750 to Rs. 900 per insured person (IP) family unit per annum with effect from May 1, 2005. The increase in the ceiling would cost an additional Rs 105 crore to the Corporation. This decision was taken at the 133rd meeting of the Corporation here. Each insured person would also be given an identity card bearing a unique insurance number so as to enable the person to avail various benefits under the scheme anywhere in the country. It was also decided to go ahead with the setting up four super-speciality hospitals at Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and in Maharashtra for which Rs 200 crore have already been earmarked. Chairing the meeting, the ESIC chairman and Union Labour Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said the enhancement in the expenditure on medical care within the framework of ESI scheme was needed.
