Son of Karadzic is arrested: NATO

PALE (BOSNIA-HERCEGOVINA): NATO troops in Bosnia on Thursday arrested the son of top Bosnian Serb war crimes fugitive Radovan Karadzic, who is wanted for alleged genocide. ``A suspected supporter of persons indicted for war crimes, Aleksandar Karadzic, was detained in Pale... and he is being transferred to a safe location,'' NATO spokesman Derek Chappell told AFP. ``Aleksandar Karadzic is suspected of rendering support to an indicted war criminal and may have information vital to the goal of locating indicted war criminals or identifying their supporters.'' Mr. Karadzic was arrested at his home in Pale, near Sarajevo, the Serbs' stronghold during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war. A police source said Mr. Karadzic junior had been flown out of Pale on a NATO helicopter. ``They put a flak jacket and handcuffs on him and took him out of the flat,'' a waitress who saw the arrest told AFP. Another witness said it was ``like a scene from an American movie'' as U.S. armoured troops made the raid. Mr. Karadzic's daughter, Sonja, accused NATO of ``kidnapping'' her brother. — AFP
