ALL SMILES AROUND: The Chief Commissioner for Land Administration, T.K. Dewan, being received by the Collector, Vikas Raj, and the Joint Collector, Ramsankar Naik, at Kurnool on Thursday.
KURNOOL: The Chief Commissioner of Land Administration, T.K. Dewan, asked the district administration to make arrangements for the second round of distribution of cultivable land to the poor. Mr. Dewan reviewed with the Collector, Vikas Raj, the Joint Collector, Ramsankar Naik, and other revenue officers here on Thursday the progress of land acquisition in the district. He said land fit for distribution must be identified along with its value and a list of the beneficiaries should also be prepared. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, was likely to launch the programme in the State by the end of the month. The beneficiary farmers must be given pattedar passbooks, records of sub-division, sketch and clear-cut boundaries for the land proposed to be allotted to the farmer. Mr. Dewan advised the district administration to draw staff from different departments to speed up the land acquisition process both for irrigation projects and land distribution programmes. The district officials explained various constraints faced by them during the land acquisition process like compensation, legal litigation, paucity of funds for peg marking in case of land identified for distribution. The Collector also brought to the notice of the CCLA the problem of accommodation for 14 Mandal Revenue Offices.

The eye bank here set a target of 101 eye ball collection during the current year. So far, 10 eyes were collected. The District Blindness Control Society met under the chairmanship of the Collector, Vikas Raj, here on Thursday and reviewed various programmes of the society. The Collector promised to supply the required kits. The secretary of the society, P. Sudhakar Rao, said a target of 18,500 eye operations and screening of 1.40 lakh school children for refractive errors was the target for the current year. Also, special emphasis would be laid on conducting eye camps in tribal areas. To make the school children programme a success, 315 science teachers would be trained in detecting basic eye problems. Last year, the society achieved a target of 110.5 per cent by conducting 22,113 operations. Out of 40,980 school children screened, 4,894 children were detected with refractive errors. The Field Publicity Officer, B.D.M. Ambedkar and others were present.
