Fourteen hurt in multiple collision

KANCHEEPURAM: Fourteen persons were injured in a multiple collision on Kancheepuram-Vandavasi Road at Sevilimedu here on Thursday morning.

Police said the mishap occurred around 6-30 a.m. near Big Street, when a transport corporation bus, coming from Melmalaiyanur to Kancheepuram, collided with a sand-laden lorry.

A tanker-lorry, which was closely following the sand-laden lorry hit it.

In the impact, 13 persons, 5 women and 8 men, travelling in the bus and the sand-laden lorry driver sustained injuries and were treated as out-patients at the Government Hospital.

13 taken ill

Thirteen persons in Uverichatram on Kancheepuram-Arakonam Road suffered from diarrhoea and vomiting due to drinking contaminated water .

Enquiries reveal that some residents had suffered from diarrhoea and vomiting a week ago and came to the Government Hospital here for treatment. A team of doctors and paramedical staff from the Primary Health Care centre, Paranthur, and the District Health Department rushed to the village to control spread of the disease.
