Stage is set for felicitation of Rajkumar tomorrow

Several actors attend function; arrangements made for 40,000 people

BANGALORE: The State Government is gearing up for the mega event to honour thespian Dr. Rajkumar to mark the golden jubilee of his silver screen presence.

The function is scheduled to be held from 6 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on Saturday at the Palace Grounds. A large numbers of the film actor's fans are expected to attend the event and seating arrangements for 40,000 people has been made at the venue

A book "Bangarada Manushya — Golden Man" depicting the life of Dr. Rajkumar, going beyond the arc lights of film studios, will be released by the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh. The State Government has allocated Rs. 30 lakhs for the event.

The chief guests for the evening include actor Vishnuvardhan and actor and Member of Parliament, Ambarish. The other star performers include S.P. Balasubramanium, Music Director Hamsalekha, Guru Kiran, Rajesh Ramnath, the sons of Rajkumar Shivaraj, Puneet and Raghavendra. Also attending the function will be stars of the Kannada filmdom Upendra, Darshan, Sudhir, Ramya, Darshita and many others.

C. Chandrashekhar, Commissioner, Department of Information, told presspersons on Thursday that the Department is in touch with the police and all arrangements have been made. He said that special plans have been chalked out to prevent stampede at the venue.

H.D. Gangaraju, President, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, said: "This is the first time that the Karnataka Government has come forward to honour the veteran actor and I am happy that such an event is taking place in Bangalore."

S.R. Govindu, President, Dr. Rajkumar Fans Association, said: "A 200-page book is going to be released at the hands of Mr. Dharam Singh and the name aptly given to the book, is of the film which ran for more than two years in which Dr. Rajkumar acted."
