Boy killed as school gate falls on him

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: An eight-year-old boy was killed when the gate of his school on which he was swinging came off the hinges and fell on him at Sultanpuri in North-West Delhi on Thursday. According to the police, Vijay, son of Tilak Ram, a resident of Sector-20, Rohini, and his sister, Rekha, both students of the Government Co-educational Secondary School in Sultanpuri, had gone to school as usual. After the school was over, Vijay and Rekha began swinging on the school gate around 4 p.m. when it came off the hinges and Vijay came under it. While he died on the spot, Rekha managed to escape with minor injuries.

This is not the first incident of a school gate falling on a student leading to his death. In February 2001, an eight-year-old boy was killed and his friend injured when the school gate on which they were swinging came crashing down on them in an MCD School in Rohini.
