Alleged member of `Yamaha gang' arrested

NEW DELHI: An alleged member of the notorious "Black Yamaha Gang", which had created terror in Noida and Hyderabad, has been arrested by the Special Staff of the East Delhi police.

The Special Staff team, led by Inspector Rakesh Dixit, arrested the accused, identified as Zahid, near Akshardham Mandir in East Delhi on Tuesday. The police said Zahid was hiding in the Capital under an assumed identity.

According to the police, Zahid was part of the Yamaha gang which had carried out 15 robberies and three murders within two months in Hyderabad a couple of years ago. Three members of the gang, Ranjeet, Chander Bhan and Nirmal Das, had been arrested earlier. The gang had created such a terror in Hyderabad that people came out on the streets to protest against lawlessness. Earlier, the gang was active in Noida. They had also carried out a robbery in a jewellery shop at Pandav Nagar in East Delhi.

Criminals from U.P.

The leaders of the gang Sanjay Katara alias Bobby and Mohammad Amin alias Moni would arrange criminals from Uttar Pradesh and other States and organise a gang. They would then arrange for their hideouts, provide them with weapons and vehicles -- which used to be black Yamaha motorcycles -- to carry out robberies.

They would commit a series of robberies and then go underground. The gang targeted traders and jewellers. In order to create terror, the gang would keep firing while committing robberies and would also kill people who offered resistance.

Further investigations in the case are on.
