Infiltration bid foiled, 8 killed

Staff Reporter

JAMMU: Four soldiers, including a Naib Subedar, were killed while trying to foil an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district on Thursday night. Four Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were also killed in the gun battle.

Defence sources said troops of 13 Sikh Light Infantry challenged a group, which infiltrated from the Nikiyal area of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) through the Bimber Gali area. Two jawans were injured in the gun battle, which continued till Friday evening.

This was the fourth infiltration attempt along the LoC in the past two weeks.

Field intelligence sources told The Hindu that top commanders of a number of terror outfits had returned from Pakistan or PoK in the last one month. Abu Hanzala, Lashkar divisional commander, and Abu Ahmad, responsible for several attacks on civilians, had come back, the sources said.
