Radar hitch delays flights

T.S. Shankar

CHENNAI: Departure and arrivals of flights at the Chennai airport suffered delays ranging between 10 and 15 minutes as two vital surveillance radars were in "unserviceable condition" from noon on Friday.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) sources said that because of the non-availability of monopulse secondary surveillance radar and Approach Surveillance Radar, Air Traffic Controllers had to clear planes through a "procedural approach" resulting in the delay.
