KHAMMAM: Five persons were washed away in the forest streams which are in full spate following heavy rain in the catchment spread the tribal pockets in the district as well as the neighbouring districts in Chhatisgarh and Orissa. Taliperu, one of the tributaries of the Godavari is in spate. The flood level in Sabari, another tributary of the same river is also on the rise. According to reports, two boys -- Raghuram, 13, and Rajaram, 12, were washed away in Murreduvagu near Kothagudem. The bodies were yet to be traced. Banthu Surya, 36, was also washed away while crossing Pedavagu in the early hours. A youth, Vanala Ravi from Gouridevipeta village was downed in the Godavari. The body was fished out near Kunavaram. A 12-year-old boy, Durga Rao, was drowned in a stream in Kothagudem mandal on Friday night. The Chandravankavagu, Sokileru and Kinnerasani were all on the rise affecting road communications in the tribal areas.
Causeway inundated
The Taliperu river inundated the causeway near Charla thus affecting the vehicular movement between Bharachalam and the agency mandals of Wajeedu and Venkatapuram. About 40,000 cusecs of water was let into the Godavari from the Taliperu project by opening nine of its gates. The Collecor, R.J. Nimje, has put the revenue and irrigation authorities on alert and they were asked to monitor the flood situation with coordination. The Bhadrachalm RDO, Ch. V. Badirinarayana, had a review with officials of the flood-prone mandas.
