VIJAYAWADA: The district administration increased the number of Designated Photography Locations (DPLs) in the five municipalities and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation for hastening the process of issuing ration cards. Addressing a meeting of NSS coordinators and college principals held at the Sub-Collector's office here on Saturday, the Joint Collector, P. Sampath Kumar, said more volunteers would be taken to assist the administration. He said a special drive would be launched in the city and one anganwadi worker and five NSS volunteers would go door-to-door, asking people to fill declaration forms. If the families visited the DPLs immediately, it would save time for the officials in issuing the cards. Mr. Kumar said more NSS volunteers should attend duty in view of the increased demand.
New centres
From Saturday, 10 more DPL centres came into operation and the total number of centres rose to 26 in the city. The newly added centres are at Gandhi Municipal High School, Fruit Merchants VMC Kalyana Mandapam at Kedareswarapet, Mohmmad Alipuram VMC Urdu High School at Wynchipet, Ghantasala Music College at Durgapuram, Kundavari Kandrika Community Hall and Elementary School, Arundelpet Kaja Venkateswara Rao Municipal Upper Primary School, Gunadala Andhra Loyola College, Patamata KSGP High School, Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium and Ramalingeswarapuram Sai Public School.
