This Day That Age
The Prime Ministers of Britain and India completed their week-end private talks on the impending summit conference at Geneva and the Far East situation, it was officially announced in London on July 9. A statement issued from Chequers, Sir Anthony Eden's official country residence, where the talks took place, said, "The discussions covered a wide field of topics of common interest." The talks between Sir Anthony Eden and Mr. Nehru were divided into two phases - informal discussions immediately after the Indian Prime Minister's arrival in London from Rome on July 8 and a full-scale official conference with advisers on July 9. Mr. Nehru gave his assessment of the Soviet policy likely to be unfolded at the coming Geneva conference. His analysis, based on a month's tour of Russia and other Communist European States, led him to the conclusion that the prospects for world peace are greater today than ever before.
