SALEM: : The onus is on the Tamil Nadu Government to improve infrastructure in medical colleges as per the norms of the Medical Council of India, Union Health Minister R. Anbumani said on Sunday. "It is the State Government that is creating confusion now," he told presspersons here. If deficiencies in these colleges were "small in nature" his Ministry could have intervened and sorted out the problems as it did in the case of the Vellore college. Reacting to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's criticism that the Theni college was not granted recognition, he said the MCI was not satisfied with the facilities in the institution. "The college lacks hostel facilities." The State asked the MCI team to postpone its visit to colleges at Salem and Kilpauk, which wanted their intake enhanced. Instead of criticising Union Ministers from Tamil Nadu, the State Government should take steps to rectify such deficiencies. He said the Salem Medical College Hospital would be made a super speciality centre along with five other hospitals in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkand.
