CHENNAI: Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday allotted a Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) flat and earmarked Rs.10 lakhs from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund for the actor and playback singer of yesteryears, Rao Balasaraswathi Devi. This followed a petition submitted by Ms. Balasaraswathi Devi to the Chief Minister stating that she was in an indigent condition. Ms. Jayalalithaa handed over to her the orders for the allotment of a rent-free flat and a fixed deposit remitted to the Tamil Nadu Power Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation. She can use the accommodation throughout her life, besides drawing the monthly interest of Rs.5833 against the amount deposited in the name of the Commissioner, Directorate of Art and Culture, an official release said.
