ANANTAPUR: The Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate's Court here on Monday quashed a petition seeking shifting of the key accused person in the Paritala Ravindra murder case, G. Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri, from the sub-jail at Reddypalli, near here, to a central prison. The petition was filed by the Superintendent of the sub-jail, Fazal Haque, last month claiming that housing Suri, who is already a life convict in the 1997 Jubilee Hills car bomb case, had become very difficult for them. He explained to the court that the jail had no infrastructure to house life convicts. In support of their claim to shift Suri to a central jail the jail authorities here had explained that the jail had neither men nor material for the safety of Suri. Besides, the threat of his (Suri's) opponents entering the jail in the guise of accused in petty cases and to cause harm to him always loomed large, the jail officials claimed. They also placed before the court the video clippings of the large gathering of Suri supporters outside the jail regularly. The Judge, A. Jayaraj, was learnt to have struck down the petition on technical grounds on Monday.
Evidence
Meanwhile, counsel for Suri, C. Adisesha Reddy, told newspersons that the jail authorities had filed the petition under Section 29 of the Prisons Act. But, the evidence produced in support of their claim would not come under the purview of the act, he said. Besides, the fact that another similar petition filed by the father-in-law of Paritala Ravindra, D. Kondanna, seeking shifting of Suri, pending in the Supreme Court, might have also prompted the court decision here, Mr. Adisesha Reddy opined. The claims of the jail authorities that such accused could be tried with the help of video conference were also not practical, he said.
