SHIMOGA: The Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University, K. Chidananda Gowda, said here on Monday that the evolution of man is of vital importance for the progress of the society. Speaking at the inauguration of a one-day workshop on revising the sociology syllabus at the college level organised by the Kuvempu University Sociology Teachers' Association, Prof. Gowda said that if the period until 2000 AD was considered the age of information, then the present phase has emerged as the age of knowledge. He added that there is a need for peace and tranquillity in society. He said as the significance of sociology is all pervasive, its study should be revised in such a way that it helps the process of development. Congratulating the organisers of the workshop, he hoped it would be helpful in revising the sociology syllabus in tune with the changing times.
