`Row between JD (S) leaders sorted out'

Staff Correspondent

Deve Gowda, Siddaramaiah speak over phone to settle differences

DAVANGERE: M.P. Prakash, Revenue Minister, said that differences between the Janata Dal (S) president, H.D. Deve Gowda, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, had been sorted out and that the two leaders had interacted with each other over telephone in Bangalore on Monday.

They are expected to meet on Tuesday in Bangalore and put an end to the speculation floated by their detractors. There were "minor misunderstandings" between them and they had settled everything over telephone, he said.

He told presspersons here that some parties had projected it to be a major clash and some leaders went to the extent of saying that the Janata Dal (S) was heading for a vertical split. He said differences in opinion ought to be there among leaders in any political party. But such quarrels should not become a recurring feature, he said and agreed that they would have a negative impact on party workers.

Mr. Prakash discounted reports that there had been a move to form a government with the support of the BJP and said that no leader of the Janata Dal (S) had mooted such an idea. "We have been opposing the BJP for it is communal party and how can we have an alliance with that party and form the Government?" he asked.

Similarly, the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, Mr. Siddaramaiah and other Ministers had a meeting with the leaders of the Opposition over the controversy involving the Public Works Minister, H.D. Revanna, and the Information Minister, B. Shivaram, today in Bangalore and solved the issue, he said. Also, the matter involving the Horticulture Minister, A. Srinivas, was discussed and the Opposition parties were requested not to raise any controversy as there were many important subjects to be discussed. He said the Opposition parties agreed to this.
