PUTTUR: There is protest against a proposed move by the Government to close down the sub-divisional information office here. Members of the Taluk Working Journalists' Association, the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Association, political parties and other organisations have expressed opposition to this move. The issue came to a boil here on Monday when protesters, including presspersons and elected representatives, staged a dharna outside the office from 8 a.m. They prevented the in-charge assistant director of the office, Jhunjanna, from closing the office as instructed by the Government. The protesters were in touch with the Minister for Information, B. Shivaram, and urged him to withdraw the decision to close the office.
