Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: : Iron scrap weighing two-and-a-half tonnes, allegedly stolen from a private foundry in Tiruvottiyur, has been seized by the Tiruvottiyur police. Ten persons, including three security guards of a private firm, were arrested in this connection on Monday.

According to E.M. Masana Muthu, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Washermanpet, police received specific information that iron scrap was being stolen from the private foundry, involved in making iron angles and channels. A team led by V. Chinna Thambi, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Tiruvottiyur, conducted a check at the private company and arrested Muthuperumal and Ayyakkutti, scrap dealers of New Washermanpet, who took the scrap from the factory premises.

Police said the scrap dealers loaded the materials into a lorry after the security guards allowed them inside. Thulasi, the official in charge of the security, and two of his associates, Anwar Basha and Dayalan, were also arrested for allegedly conniving with the scrap dealers.
