MADURAI: There has been a good response to the three-month special-teacher training programme to be organised by the Directorate of School Education from July 25. The office of the Chief Educational Officer has received more than 150 applications so far. The last date for submission of applications has been extended to July 15. According to sources, the Teacher Training Certificate course is meant for special teachers, in three categories drawing, music and tailoring. In Madurai district, 131 applications have been received for tailoring course, and 12 applications for drawing. Training for tailoring applicants will be held at Dindigul, while drawing teachers will be trained at Virudhunagar. At the end of training, the department will issue certificates. Qualified teachers can apply for special teacher vacancies in Government and aided schools.
School upgraded
Meanwhile, the Government High School at Paravai in Melur educational district has been upgraded into a higher secondary school from this academic year. Officials said admission for higher secondary classes were going on and teacher posts will be filled up soon. Another proposal for upgrading the Government school at Melavalavu into a higher secondary school, however, is pending, the authorities said.
