J.C. Road car park by month-end

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Commissioner of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), K. Jothiramalingam, on Monday said the Jayachamarajendra (J.C.) Road car park will be opened for public use by the month-end.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the Kempegowda Maharaja shopping centre and multi-level car park on Kempegowda Road.

Replying to a statement made by the Transport Minister, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, that the J.C. Road parking lot is not being used, he said tenders for managing the car park was called recently.

He said the BMP planned joint venture projects in Gandhi Bazaar, Johnson Market, Krumbigal Road, Malleswaram, Kalasipalyam, Seshadripuram, Yediyur, Kodigehalli and EWS quarters in Ejipura. A modern abattoir will be set up on Hosur Road, he said.

Mr. Jothiramalingam said the property tax self-assessment scheme will continue for some more time. The BMP has written to the Government seeking permission to increase the tax rates under the new capital value system (CVS). Because of the recent modification to the law, which makes it mandatory for municipalities and corporations to fix the rate under the CVS at 50 per cent of the guidance value of property, the BMP's revenue will be affected, he said.
