Lovely day for the `lions'

It will be a memorable day for the Lions Clubs International District 324 A2, when the President of the International Association of Lions Clubs (2005-06), Ashok V. Mehta officially visits the district on Wednesday (July 13) and inaugurates various projects.

Mr. Ashok V. Mehta, hailing from Mumbai, is the first ever Lions International President to visit the Lions District 324 A2. Interestingly, Mr. Mehta is only the second Indian to be elected for this high office of the Lions Movement, which is spread over in 196 countries and accounts for a membership of 14 lakh.

Rohit Mehta of Gujarat was the first ever Indian to be the Lions International president in 1990.Mr. Ashok Mehta is a Lions Club member since 1963.

He served on the Campaign Sight First International Committee from 1990-95 and played a key role in raising 150 million US dollars for the project.

According to the Lions District Governor, R. Swaminathan, because of his outstanding leadership and contributions, Mr. Mehta was selected for many coveted international awards, including `President's Medallion' for the last 23 years.Mr Ashok V. Metha had also served as the Sheriff of Mumbai during 2001.

The Lions District 324 A2 has taken initiative for according red carpet welcome to Mr. Mehta and has planned to launch various projects to honour him.
