ALAPPUZHA: : Hundreds of activists of the National Congress (Indira) organised a picketing before the Alappuzha District Collectorate on Tuesday to protest against the `various decisions of the Government regarding the rehabilitation of the tsunami-affected people, the procurement of paddy from Kuttanad and the police action against students and NC (I) workers. The blockade began at around 9.30 a.m. and lasted till around 12 noon, when the police arrested and removed the protestors. NC (I) State general secretary N. Venugopal in his inaugural speech, said the present UDF Government had the support of ministers only and the Government would be forced to resign soon. "Oommen Chandy who led many violent agitations, when he was a leader of the Youth Congress, was now unleashing the police against peaceful protestors," noted Mr. Venugopal. He said the police was resorting to unprecedented acts such as the use of grenades and other explosives against unarmed people.
