GULBARGA: More than 200 children were taken ill on Tuesday after they had the mid day meal served at the Government Primary School at Yelkunda village near Kamalapur, 40 km from here. According to preliminary information available here, the children started vomiting soon after consuming the food and a few are said to have fallen unconscious after a while. The exact number of children who fell ill was not available immediately, although reports reaching here said that more than 200 children had consumed the food. At least five children have been admitted to the government hospital at Kamalapur and their condition is said to be serious. The Deputy Commissioner, Anjum Parvez, has rushed to the spot with a team of doctors and medicines. The parents of more than 150 children who were taken ill and a large number of people gathered at Kamalapur. The situation was tense in the town. The parents who had gathered near the school demanded stringent action against the school authorities and those in charge of the mid day meal centre at the school.
