Priority to women's education: Rangasamy

PONDICHERRY: The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, has said the Union Territory Administration was according importance to women's education as that would be of help for their economic empowerment and also sustained development.

Declaring open a prayer hall constructed by the Pondicherry State Wakf Board for Muslim women at Sultanpet near here on Monday, he said the Girls High School at Sultanpet had been upgraded into a higher secondary school as the Government wanted to promote education of girls on a priority basis.

He referred to the steps taken to eradicate poverty and provide concrete houses to those living in huts under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Housing Scheme. Pucca houses would replace all huts in the next few years in a phased manner, he said.

Mr. Rangasamy also declared open a primary school at Sultanpet, which was also constructed by the Wakf Board.
