Court refuses to stay counselling

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused to stay counselling, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, for allotment of seats and trades in Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) and Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) here to candidates who have cleared the Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) held this past May for admission to the two engineering institutes.

However, Justice Vikramjit Sen directed counsel for Delhi University to submit a report to the Court within four weeks when the advocate submitted that the university had ordered an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the examination.

Quoting media reports, the petitioner, Karan Mendiratta, who ranked 1,459 in the examination, alleged that there had been irregularities in the examination.

Self-defence training for girls

NEW DELHI: To curb the increasing incidents of crime against women in the Capital, the Delhi Government on Tuesday launched a programme "Project Raksha" for imparting self-defence training to girl students of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and New Delhi Municipal Council-run schools. Under the project, training in self-defence will be given to the physical education teachers so that they could train the girl students.

The Education Minister, Arvinder Singh Lovely, said the Government planned the project with the cooperation of the Delhi police.

Pond, chaupals inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan on Tuesday inaugurated a pond and two chaupals at Alipur block in North-West Delhi.

The Irrigation and Flood Control Department has constructed the pond in Holambi Khurd village at a cost of Rs.48.20 lakhs, while the general chaupal and Balmiki chaupal have been constructed at a cost of Rs.11.70 lakhs and Rs.7.36 lakhs respectively.

Transport office to be set up

NEW DELHI: Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf said on Tuesday that a Transport Authority office would soon be set up at the Surajmal Vihar bus terminal in East Delhi.

Laying the foundation stone of the bus terminal at Surajmal Vihar, Mr. Yusuf said the Delhi Government was committed to improving the public transportation system.

The local MLA Naseeb Singh presided over the function andCouncillor R.S. Pawar was the chief guest.
