Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE: Bank of India will observe July 19 as "Kissan day" and disburse loans of Rs. 50,000 each to 100 unemployed youth from 100 villages of Davangere district.

The loans will be distributed to make them self employed and start ventures such as telephone booths, digital photo labs and internet centres.

Talking to presspersons here on Tuesday, R.M. Patil, manager of the bank, said the bank will provide the loans at 9 per cent interest in association with the Grameena Mahithi Parishath, a non-governmental organisation.

The beneficiaries have to pay back the loan in five years. The scheme is being implemented in Davangere, Mysore and Belgaum.

The manager said the bank has achieved a 30 per cent increase in agricultural lending this year.
