Pattas for tribals urged

BJP leaders seek Governor's intervention

HYDERABAD: The State Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Thursday urged the Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde, to direct the Government to issue pattas to tribals in both scheduled and non-scheduled areas

after regularising the forest land in their possession.

A party delegation, led by N. Indrasena Reddy and Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum. A couple of Lambada women from Narsapur (Medak district) accompanied them.

The memorandum said forestlands were the main source of livelihood for lakhs of tribals living in the scheduled areas.

Their hardship had increased manifold due to the Government's "negligent" attitude. It urged Mr. Shinde to invoke various statutory provisions to safeguard tribals' welfare.

It pointed out that no action had been initiated to regularise forestland in favour of tribals, as recommended by the Tribal Advisory Committee a decade ago.
