CHENNAI: : The Anna Nagar police have registered a case of extortion and kidnapping and wrongful confinement of Sudalaikannu of Kolathur and his family, against the director of a finance company. According to police, Sudalaikannu, a resident of Kolathur, stood surety three years ago for his friend Jothinathan, who took Rs. 2 lakhs as loan from Mangalam Finance, in which Ernavur Narayanan was the director.Jothinathan, unable to repay the loan, reportedly absconded last year, following which Ernavur Narayanan and his associates allegedly towed away a lorry belonging to him. A group of people broke into Sudalaikannu's house and abducted his entire family. They were confined in a house at Kodingaiyur. Narayanan and his associates held the family captive for ten days, police said. The group forcibly got Sudalaikannu's signature on some papers. Attempts by the victim to initiate action against Narayanan proved futile, police said. In May, Sudalaikannu checked with the Registrar's office and was shocked to find that his property was in someone else's name. He filed a complaint with the Anna Nagar police last week. Officials said they were investigating the case and would initiate action against the offenders.
