Security at temple Hundreds of devotees throng Jambukeshwara Akilandeshwari Temple at Thirvanaikoil. The astonishing fact is that the authorities close the north, east and south gates, as a security measure during bomb scare, whenever attacks are made on places of worship in other parts of the country. They leave only the western gate open. This `closing' exercise has become a regular activity for days together before and after December 6 and also frequently during other months in a year. This causes hardship to the devotees in reaching the western gate and traffic flow is also affected owing to parking of vehicles. Instead of closing the entrances, the Devastanam can ask for more police security. Will the authorities concerned look into the matter and do the needful? K. Lakshmi Narayanan Tiruchi. Unhygienic GH Though the Tiruchi Government Hospital has attained the status of a Medical College Hospital four years ago, even minimum rules of hygiene are not observed. Callousness prevailing there will stand a testimony to this condition. It is quite unfortunate that these things are happening in a headquarters hospital, which daily caters to the needs of more than 3000 patients. Owing to the recalcitrant attitude of mandarins, the hospital premises are stinking. Will the dean of this hospital take stock of the situation and set right problems? H. Ghouse Baig, Tiruchi. Overflowing sewage Underground drainage water overflows frequently at various points in Tiruchi, especially near the Railway Junction and Central Bus Stand areas, posing health hazard to the public and also to the thousands of rail and bus passengers. For the past one week, the sewage is overflowing at many important points. At present, sewage is overflowing on the busy Rockins road and stagnating on one side of the road. There is no space for pedestrian movement. As this busy road is a two-way traffic, public find it difficult to pass through this area. Moreover, the stench is unbearable. The people expect the civic authorities to act and ensure that sewage does not overflow in future. C. Balasubramanian, Tiruchi. Garbage problem Students of Srimad Andavan College and hundreds of passengers face great difficulty as they have to pass over heaps of garbage dumped close to the college. It is dumped with plastic covers. Moreover the unpleasant smell of garbage often causes nausea. The garbage dump has turned out to be a breeding centre for thousands of mosquitoes. Also people residing nearby are exposed to a high risk of contracting diseases. The Corporation should take necessary action on this issue. G. Sriram Tiruchi. Library needed There are more than a hundred houses located at Palpannai. Many students are living in this area. However, there is no library facility in this area. So, they have to go to town or the central library for collecting data and information for their studies. It will be beneficial if the authorities concerned open a library in this area. G. Viswanath, Tiruchi.
