Two in the three-member Judges Committee agree with the choice of buildings

  • Govt. promises to create infrastructure
  • Chief Architect sounded out on construction of new buildings

BANGALORE: The State Government is keen that the two circuit Benches of the Karnataka High Court in Hubli-Dharwad and Gulbarga should start functioning from November 1 (Rajyotsava Day).

Law Minister H.K. Patil told the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday that the Government has decided to set up circuit Benches in Gulbarga and Hubli-Dharwad. In a six-page statement, the Minister said work is in full swing for creating infrastructure for the Benches. Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh on Tuesday wrote to the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, N.K. Sodhi, stating that the Government will take steps to fulfil the aspirations of the people.

Mr. Patil said the proposed building — Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) — meant for the Circuit Bench in Dharwad is not involved in any dispute as reported in a section of the media. He said it belonged to the Government.

Mr. Patil said Mr. Singh had discussed the issue with the Chief Architect of the Government and asked him to prepare a blueprint for the new building complex. The Government will renovate the existing building. He said while two members of the Judges Committee had approved the renovation work and temporary working of the circuit Benches in these two places, another member felt it is not fit for the circuit Bench and the Chief Justice agreed with his view.

    Meets Governor

Mr. Dharam Singh and Mr. Patil called on the Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, and the Chief Justice on Tuesday. Mr. Dharam Singh told presspersons that he has invited the Chief Justice to the foundation stone laying ceremony for new buildings of the circuit Benches.
