Girl commits suicide

A 14-year-old girl, Sravani, allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in her house at Mallikarjunanagar of Malkajgiri on Monday night.

The girl went to a local temple in the morning alone and returned home an hour later. She doused herself with kerosene and set herself afire.

Boy succumbs to burns

An 11-year-old boy, Mohd. Aziz, died after he accident- ally caught fire while lighting a candle in his house at Sulaimannagar of the Rajendranagar police station. The boy was rushed to Osmania General Hospital on Monday. He died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday.

Parlour raided, 8 held

The Hyderabad Police Task Force (north) team on Tuesday raided a massage parlour at Begumpet and arrested eight persons.

The owner of the parlour, Priya Nair, was allegedly luring clients with young women masseurs, a press release said.

Mother, child found dead

A woman, Balamani (24), and her one-and-half-year-old daughter, Swathi, were found dead in a well at Turkapally in the Alwal police station area on Tuesday.

The girl's body was found strapped around the mother's waist with a cloth. The Alwal Sub-Inspector, Satish Reddy, opined that Balamani might have committed suicide by jumping into the well.

Her husband, Narsimha, a labourer, reportedly deserted her six months ago.

Mystery shrouds man's disappearance

Mystery shrouded the disappearance of an alleged bootlegger, Raju Singh at Golconda. While his wife, Chinna Bai, maintained that her husband jumped into the Ibrahimbagh tank and drowned when the Golconda excise station officials chased him on Tuesday, the latter refuted the allegation. The Narsingi police, however, booked a `missing' case after Chinna Bai approached them saying her husband drowned in the tank.
