Insurance scheme for scribes

HYDERABAD: The Government has agreed to renew the group medi-claim insurance policy scheme for working journalists, including press photographers and representatives of the electronic media, for the financial year 2005-06.

According to a press release issued by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists, the scheme was introduced in August last when 2,500 members enrolled.

Some 200 families were reimbursed hospital expenses to the tune of Rs.15 lakhs.

The Government had doubled the number of journalists to 5,000 this year. Those enrolled in 2004 should renew their membership. in prescribed forms and pay Rs.705. New members should submit applications along with bank draft for Rs.705 each drawn in favour of the APUWJ and two passport size photographs (member, spouse and two children). The last date for renewal and new enrolment is July 31.
