HYDERABAD: Miscreants took away gold and cash, all worth Rs. 2 lakhs, at knifepoint after raiding a house during daytime in Marredpally on Tuesday. A businessman's wife, Manju Bai, 34, was talking to her maids -Jyothi, 14, and Renuka, 12,- when the three persons barged into the bedroom of the house in East Marredpally around 11a.m. While her three children had left for the school, her husband, Ramesh Jain, was away. One of them held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm. "The woman says she saw a pistol in a robber's hand. It is not yet clear if it was a genuine one," the Additional Commissioner of Police (co-ordination), Tejdeep Kaur Menon, said. They took her gold bangles, snatched the gold chain and the key attached to it. Thereafter, they opened the almirah and collected 25 tolas gold, silver articles weighing a kilo and Rs. 10,000 in cash. Later, they tied Manju Bai and the two maids and fled after bolting the doors. The miscreants, all in their mid-twenties, spoke in Hindi and Telugu. One of them wore a mask. The police suspect the number of miscreants could be more than three. The Hyderabad Police Commissioner, V. Dinesh Reddy, and other top police officials visited the victim's house.
