NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) has refused to interfere in the admission procedure of St. Stephen's College in the wake of a petition by 12 Christian candidates alleging that they were arbitrarily denied admission by it. According to the College Principal, Dr. Anil Wilson, the Commission also vacated its earlier order directing the College to hold back one seat each in various courses. Stating that the College stands vindicated, Dr. Wilson said the Commission withdrew its earlier order of seat reservation after hearing the College's reply that its admission process was a well-thought out and detailed procedure based on a judgement delivered by the Supreme Court. "Even while disputing the Commission's jurisdiction to entertain such individual complaints, the College had presented all its records and documents to the Commission in the interest of transparency and to prevent unnecessary hardship to the students since their careers were involved. These documents and records clearly revealed the ineligibility of the petitioners to sustain their claims for admission and completely nullify their frivolous claims that they were denied admission arbitrarily by the College," Dr. Wilson said in a statement on Tuesday.
