NEW DELHI: The Delhi police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the alleged drug dealer Sharafat Sheikh who was arrested by the Crime Branch on July 7. A city court also remanded him to 15-day police custody on Tuesday. In their submission before the court of the Additional Sessions Judge J.M. Malik, the Delhi police said the custodial interrogation of Sharafat was necessary to trace and nab his contacts involved in drug trafficking. Also, a detailed a probe was being carried out to identify the properties worth crores, allegedly acquired by Sharafat out of his ill-gotten money. The police also suspect that Sharafat was involved in flesh trade. After opening a beer bar in Mumbai five years ago, Sharafat had reportedly come in contact with many Hindi film stars and was allegedly involved in supplying drugs to them. He was also reportedly involved in illegal sale and purchase of expensive cars. With Sharafat now booked under the MCOCA, the police hope to expedite investigations against the drug lord who has been involved in the trade for the past several years.
