Girl commits suicide

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in her house at Dabri in South-West Delhi on Tuesday. She was apparently depressed after her father had expressed his inability to pay for her studies.

According to the police, Nutan, daughter of Jagdish, a carpenter living at Durga Park in Dabri, hanged herself with the help of a chunni around 3-30 p.m. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. Investigations revealed that Nutan had passed her Class X examinations from a government school this year. She wanted to study further but Jagdish reportedly told her that he could not support her studies. Following this, she apparently went into a depression and took the extreme step.

A case has been registered at Dabri police station and further investigations are on.

Cyclist killed by truck

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: A 40-year-old man, Bijender of Ispur, was killed when the bicycle he was riding was knocked down by a truck at Jaffarpur Kalan in South-West Delhi on Tuesday. A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered at Jaffarpur Kalan police station and the truck driver, Ajeet Singh, arrested.

One electrocuted

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: A mason was electrocuted today as he came in close contact with an overhead high-tension wire in a Northwest Delhi area, police said.

Inderjeet (40) was engaged in construction work at a house in Khanjawala area of the city when the incident happened. A case of death due to negligence has been registered, police said.

Man cheated

of Rs. 25,000

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: A 50-year-old man was cheated of Rs. 25,000 by an unidentified person at Gandhi Nagar in East Delhi on Tuesday.

According to the police, Prem Nath, a clerk working with a trading company in Gandhi Nagar, had gone to the Gandhi Nagar branch of the Punjab National Bank around 1 p.m. to deposit Rs. 25,000. However, he found that the counters had closed as the bank staff had gone for lunch. Around the same time, a man in his mid-thirties came to him and offered to get his work done. Prem Nath got convinced and gave him the entire amount. The man then went to the first floor of the bank but did not return. Prem Nath waited for him till about 3 p.m. after which he informed the Police Control Room.

A case of cheating has been registered at Gandhi Nagar police station and further investigations are on.

Arrested for robberies

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHINEW: Five persons allegedly involved in committing robberies in warehouses have been arrested by the West Delhi police. The police have recovered looted articles worth over Rs. 1 crore at their instance.

The police said a robbery had occurred in the godown of Microtek computers at Mundka in Nangloi, West Delhi, on July 5. The police received a tip-off about some persons planning to rob another warehouse in Mundka.

The police managed to arrest five of them, while two of them managed to escape. Those arrested have been identified as Sharafat Hussain (35), Brahmchari (42), Shamsuddin Khan (30), Ramesh Bidhuri (24) and Suresh (35). Those who escaped have been identified as Mazar and Shravan Kumar.
