NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party will start an agitation "to create public opinion" against the Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunals) Act, which the Supreme Court struck down on Tuesday. The agitation will call for a 3-D formula: detect illegal migrants, delete their names from electoral rolls and deport them. Outlining a programme here on Wednesday, BJP vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu criticised the United Progressive Alliance Government for not getting rid of this "ineffective piece of legislation," thanks to its "vote-bank politics". He hoped that "good sense will prevail" and that the Government would not seek a review of the court order. The Government itself admitted that as many as 1.2 crore Bangladeshis were here illegally, Mr. Naidu said. He said the "demographic changes taking place in some districts of Assam are frightening" and had "security implications", which no government should overlook.
