TIRUVARUR: A total of 1.25 lakh houses will be constructed for rural poor under the scheme "House for the poor" in the State this year, said the Director, Rural Development, Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr.M.Rajaram, at Tiruvarur on Wednesday. Inspecting various development works completed and being executed under various schemes in the district, he said that the Government was giving importance to total sanitation in villages and those hamlets, which complied with this would get an incentive of Rs. five lakhs. The Director also inspected the construction of a school building at a cost of Rs.3.70 lakhs at Moolankudy village in Mannargudi block. He also saw the road laid at a cost of Rs.one lakh at Sithanakudi village under the Namadhu Gramam scheme and also the women sanitary complex constructed at a cost of Rs.2.25 lakhs.At Velukudi, he inspected the road works taken up at a cost of Rs.2.25 lakhs and another road completed at a cost of Rs.2.70 lakhs.
