KRISHNAGIRI: An Integrated Solid Waste Management Programme would be implemented in 10 wards of the Krishnagiri Municipality from the first week of August, said the Collector, Mangat Ram Sharma. Participating in the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board meeting here on Tuesday, he said Self-help groups would be engaged for the segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes at all households in the respective wards. The waste would be collected in pushcarts for recycling of biodegradable waste into manure and disposal of non-biodegradable waste on the compost yard. Similarly a Solid Waste Management Programme would be implemented in four wards of the Hosur Municipality from August 18. The meeting also stressed the need for implementation of the programme in the Special Village Panchayats of Kaveripattinam and Bargur. Mr. Sharma said that Self-help groups and students would be engaged to create awareness among the public on the segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. A mass cleaning campaign would also be held on August 28 to remove all plastic waste and garbage on the National Highways and important lanes of the Krishnagiri municipality. The meeting also discussed on the ban on usage of plastics and plantation of saplings on either side of the SIPCOT industrial estates in Hosur.
