COIMBATORE: In a bid to fight an increasingly competitive telephony market, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has begun aggressive marketing of its basic phone services. On Wednesday, it launched mobile teleshoppe concept wherein a mobile enrolment office will visit residential and shopping areas to enable prospective subscribers to submit their applications for new BSNL phone connections. Principal General Manager, Coimbatore, BSNL, A.S. Egaya and General Manager T. Natarajan launched the concept at Kurichi telephone exchange. The vehicle will function in two-shifts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Subscribers can pay a deposit of Rs. 1,000 and submit their applications. They can also ask for a number of their choice, subject to availability. The rent will be Rs. 140 a month with 50 free calls.
