High Court seeks status report on stray cattle

"You have been filing affidavits and status reports and doing nothing substantive"

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Delhi Government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to file a joint status report saying what they had so far done on the ground to remove stray cattle from the Capital.

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice B.C. Patel and Justice S.K. Kaul passed the direction when counsel for the State Government and the two local bodies failed to satisfy it on the steps they had taken so far to end the menace.

The Bench took strong exception to filing of reports and affidavits by the three respondents and doing nothing on the ground.

"You have been only filing affidavits and status reports and doing nothing substantive to solve the problem as there are reports that stray cattle caught and sent to gosadans have been brought back to the city," the Bench observed.

The Bench asked them to file the report on July 21 specifying areas from where stray cattle had been removed, failing which MCD Commissioner, NDMC Chairman and Delhi Chief Secretary would have to be present in person in the Court.

Drawing the attention of the three respondents to the fact that there was no coordination among them to solve the menace, the Bench asked them to file a joint status report.
