Striking a nostalgic chord

Sumith Nakhandala, the Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Chennai, has struck a nostalgic chord with Kerala.

Delivering a special address at a national seminar on Sethusamudram Project held on Calicut University campus on Tuesday, Nakhandala said there were more similarities than differences between Kerala and Sri Lanka.

During a recent drive from Chennai, Mr. Nakhandala said that he had experienced a feeling of being at home the moment he entered Kumily. The topography of Sri Lanka, he said, is an extension of the Western Ghats. As if to get an academic backing to his view, Mr. Nakhandala made Vice-Chancellor Syed Iqbal Hasnain subscribe to it. "We have the same appam, puttu and even the same fish curry," said Mr. Nakhandala.
